With Sandwell Homes providing funding, resources and significant Officer time to assist in the programme delivery.
SCIPS provide Officer time funded through a Service Level Agreement (SLA) from Sandwell MBC - giving the project an independent perspective .
Sandwell currently has around 12 Inspectors who meet bi monthly through a steering group to plan, undertake and report back on between 4 - 6 full inspections per year.
The inspections focus on improved service delivery for Sandwell Homes customers. This approach of tenant led inspection provides a unique customer focus and can be extremely valuable in an organisational culture seeking continuous improvement and a striving for exellence.
The Audit Commission have been extremely impressed by the project indicating they would wish to see it expand and grow.
The process of inspection can be intensive and it is essential that volunteers joining the project have committment and a desire for professionalism. Currently we have a committed, skilled and highly motivated group of individuals who work together on the project.
This project has proved to be an innovative and rewarding experience for tenants wishing to participate in the housing service - it is not however, a way of spying on staff or a method for singling out specific individuals for criticism!
